Awards

YBike is new and so far has only entered in a few awards, but it is important to highlight the ones it has won!

SABS Design Excellence Award

SABS Logo

This cool little balance bike was recently awarded a SABS Design Excellence Award ‘09, an example of excellent South African innovation and product design!

The SABS Design Excellence Award recognizes not only the visual aspects but takes into consideration the Ergonomic design, Engineering, material choices and thoughts behind the Motor Skill development claims. Recognition for:

  • Bigger wheels for safer riding on uneven surfaces,
  • Two wheels at the back lending a small degree
of balancing aid, but still allowing the child to
lean to the side during turning, this also gives a
safer ride as a standard trike tips over on sharp
    turns
  • High ground clearance and shape of lower
body allows for safer riding over big obstacles
  • Bigger angle on front fork allows the wheel to be
further forward from the kids centre of gravity,
    allowing for a safer turn
  • Internal fork locking mechanism reduces the
tightness of a turn, also allowing for safer turning
  • Covered rear wheels stop little feet from being
    driven over

Oppenheim Award

Oppenheim Award is probably the most prestigious toy award that can be won in the USA. Products are tested extensively with children before awarding. YBike won the Gold Seal award which is an award given to outstanding new products that enhance the lives of children.

South Africa Toy of the Year

Oppenheim Award

YBIKE won the second runner up prize in the Toddler catogory at the esteemed South Africa Toy of the Year Awards held in Sandton on the 15 of November 2007.

What makes this achievement remarkable is the fact that not one YBIKE had been sold at the time of judging which took place 2 months prior to the official launch of YBIKE. The judges only had a prototype to evaluate.

The competition involved all toys sold in South Africa during the past two years including such well known International brands as Lego, Superman, Fisher Price and others.
